Kerala Spice Export Compliance Guide

Technical specifications, phytosanitary requirements, and ASTA cleanliness standards for exporting Black Pepper and Cardamom from India.

Kerala is the epicenter of premium spices. However, sourcing Tellicherry Black Pepper (HS 09041130) or Green Cardamom (HS 09083120) requires strict adherence to ASTA (American Spice Trade Association) and ESA (European Spice Association) cleanliness specifications.

Phytosanitary Certification

Every shipment undergoes rigorous inspection by the Spices Board of India and the Plant Quarantine Department. We provide comprehensive Phytosanitary Certificates declaring the cargo free from live insects, mold, and soil contamination.

ASTA Cleanliness Specifications (Black Pepper)

  • Extraneous Matter: Maximum 1.0% by weight.
  • Mold & Insect Defiled: Maximum 1.0% by weight.
  • Moisture Content: Maximum 12.0% to prevent fungal proliferation during shipping.
  • Bulk Density: Min 550 g/l for TGSEB (Tellicherry Garbled Special Extra Bold).
